– EN Fashion – Clare Waight Keller has fondly recalled the time she collaborated with Lady Gaga on a red carpet gown.
The British designer, who announced her plans to exit her role as creative director of Givenchy following a three-year stint earlier this month, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share one of her favourite moments at the French luxury house.
Posting several images of Gaga in the showstopping dress she wore the September 2018 premiere of her movie A Star Is Born, Waight Keller wrote in the caption: “Lady Gaga is one of those talents that truly surprises you at every turn. I had never worked with her before, but I knew whatever we did together was going to create an epic moment.”
Gaga’s dress was custom-made by Waight Keller’s team and comprised a layer of metallic lace draped gauzily over a strapless slip as well as a dramatic cape and train.
Remembering how she and the superstar had been inspired by the idea of “Silver Screen Hollywood from the ’30s, utter glamour and goddess beauty”, the designer was pleased with the mercurial finish of the dress, which she reminisced as “almost like the whole look had literally been dipped in silver”.
As well as the ensemble itself, Waight Keller adored the experience of working with Gaga.
“Lady Gaga is extraordinary in so many ways, as an artist, actress, singer, producer, activist, and businesswoman an icon of putting a love of creativity and passion behind everything she does and making us all sit up and look as she makes those moments happen,” the 49-year-old gushed.
Alongside the photos of the Born This Way hitmaker, Waight Keller also shared snaps of the gown’s last fitting on a stand-in model, and several haute couture pieces that inspired it, noting the dress and cape “took several weeks to painstaking make but the results were incredible”.
