– EN Fashion – Brandon Maxwell created Naomi Campbell’s 2016 MTV Video Music Awards dress on her dining table the night before the show.
During a chat with Karlie Kloss for her No Filter with Naomi YouTube series earlier this week, the British supermodel remembered how she called up the New York-based designer with a fashion crisis the night before she had to present Rihanna with an award during the ceremony at Madison Square Garden and he quickly leapt into action to make sure she had something to wear.
“I had to give Rihanna an MTV Award three years ago (sic),” she explained. “Brandon, I called him the night before and said, ‘I’m coming into New York from L.A. and I don’t have a dress’. Brandon came and made the dress on my dining table for that night… He’s amazing.”
The 49-year-old took to the stage wearing a white one-shoulder column dress with a thigh-high split and wore another of his designs – a mint green strapless minidress – on the red carpet. She did not specify which one he made at the last minute.
Karlie then shared a similar story about the designer, recalling how he cut her long white cutout dress following the 2016 Met Gala to turn it into a minidress.
“One year, I went to the Met Gala and wore a dress that he created. For the after-party, he literally took scissors and just chopped it off into a little minidress and I went off to the after-party,” she gushed of her Project Runway co-star. “I think he has this love of women, of wanting to create fashion that really celebrates the female form and makes women feel beautiful and love their curves, love their body. I think Brandon does a great job of that.”
Both models also heaped praise on Maxwell and fellow Project Runway star Christian Siriano for helping make face masks during the coronavirus crisis.
Maxwell listened to their chat and thanked them both for lifting his mood in a lengthy Instagram post.
